The ground rules

Terms of Service

Effective November 4, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Mica application for macOS and this website. Mica is maintained through the Mica project on GitHub; “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the project's maintainers.

Accepting these terms

By downloading, installing, or using Mica or this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use them. You must be legally able to enter into these terms in your jurisdiction. If you use Mica for an organization, you are responsible for having the authority to do so and for complying with that organization's policies.

Mica is a Gmail client

Mica provides a native interface to Gmail and related Google services. It is not an email provider and does not guarantee delivery, receipt, retention, or availability of email. Features that use Gmail, Google OAuth, or Google Cloud Pub/Sub depend on those third-party services and may change or stop working when their APIs, quotas, or policies change.

You need a compatible device and, for live Gmail features, a valid Google account and network access. Your Google account and use of Google services are governed by your agreements with Google. Mica is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.

Source code, if made available in the project repository, is provided under the terms stated in that repository. Third-party libraries and resources retain their own licenses. These terms do not grant rights beyond those licenses, and no separate open-source license is implied where the repository does not provide one.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for:

You may not use Mica or this website to violate the law, infringe others' rights, distribute malware, send unlawful or abusive communications, gain unauthorized access to accounts or systems, interfere with the service, or bypass the security or usage limits of Google, GitHub, or other providers.

Local data and application behavior

Mica stores mailbox caches, drafts, Outbox data, schedules, and preferences on your Mac as described in the Privacy Policy. Offline and cached information can be incomplete or out of date. Network interruptions, conflicting changes, third-party service behavior, and local failures can affect synchronization.

Scheduled sends require Mica to be running at the scheduled time; overdue items are handled after reopening. The Outbox can require your review when Mica cannot determine whether a message was sent. You remain responsible for checking the outcome before sending again. Removing an account from Mica does not revoke access in your Google Account or delete mail already stored or sent through Gmail.

The demo mailbox contains fictional sample content. Do not rely on it as a backup or a live mail service.

Updates and changes

Release builds may check GitHub for updates and offer to download and install them. Update settings are available in the updater. We may add, change, or discontinue application features or website content. We may also update these terms; the current version and effective date will appear on this page. Continued use after updated terms take effect constitutes acceptance of them.

Intellectual property and feedback

Mica's original branding, website design, and other original project materials are protected by applicable intellectual property laws, subject to any license expressly provided with them. Google, Gmail, macOS, Apple, GitHub, and other names and marks belong to their respective owners.

If you send suggestions, issue reports, patches, or other contributions, you allow us to use them to evaluate, improve, and maintain the project. Formal code contributions are also subject to the contribution terms stated in the repository. Do not submit confidential mailbox content or credentials.

Third-party services and links

Mica and this website interact with or link to services operated by others, including Google, GitHub, Apple, email content hosts, and applications you choose to open links or attachments with. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their availability, content, security, or practices. Their terms and privacy policies apply separately.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mica and this website are provided “as is” and “as available,” with all faults and without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and quiet enjoyment.

We do not warrant that Mica will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, error-free, or compatible with every device or service; that data will be accurate, complete, preserved, or recovered; or that every message, schedule, update, or synchronization will succeed. You use Mica at your own risk. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the maintainers and contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, data, or business opportunities; or the cost of substitute services arising from or related to Mica, this website, or these terms.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, their total aggregate liability for all claims relating to Mica, this website, or these terms will not exceed the greater of fifty US dollars (US$50) or the amount you paid specifically to the maintainers for Mica during the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory and even if a party knew or should have known that damages were possible. They do not exclude liability that applicable law does not allow to be limited.

Ending use

You may stop using Mica at any time. Disconnect or remove your accounts, revoke access through Google if desired, uninstall the app, and remove local data as described in the Privacy Policy. We may stop maintaining or distributing Mica or change the website without guaranteeing continued availability.

Provisions concerning intellectual property, third-party services, disclaimers, liability, and other matters that by their nature should survive will continue after you stop using Mica.

General

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and the maintainers about Mica and this website, except for separate terms that expressly govern source code, contributions, or third-party services. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your obligations under these terms without our consent; we may assign them as part of a transfer or reorganization of the project.

The laws applicable to your use may include mandatory consumer protections. Nothing in these terms is intended to remove rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
